Decanter World Wine Awards, DWWA
May 17 we were awarded the DWWA Commended for the Grande Réserve 2008. We are not only proud to have the potential of our first growth confirmed at the international arena; we are also challenged by the opportunities we get in this situation.
Château Gourran enters the Norwegian market
The Norwegian wine importer ProVino AS has provided our wines to the Norwegian market since March 2011. It is the Grande Réserve 2008 that is our first product to enter.
Launch of the Grande Réserve 2008
The Grande Réserve is the prestige wine of Château Gourran. Here we work with selected parcels of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with the best abilities for creation of a wine with intensity, charm and ageing potential.
These days the plants are developing their solar panels in form of leaves. They deliver the energy required for growing the estimated 38.000 bottles of wine.
The fertilization begins soon and is facilitated by direct contact of seeds provided by the wind. (No bees required).
In the cellar we are preparing the bottling of Rouge Grande Réserve 2008 and Rouge tradition 2009. We are bottling June 3.
This year the pruning has been unusually demanding. The hail storms in May 2009 hit the shoots and made a lot of wounds. Picking the right shoots for next season has been more difficult this year. The success of this work will show when we bend the shoots and fixate them at the low wire. Some will break; hopefully not too many!
Release of the Rouge tradition 2008
Rouge tradition 2008 is ready for sale in France at the winery and in Copenhagen and Skanderborg, Denmark. The wine is ready for the table and will cope fine; even with the demanding traditional Danish Christmas food!
Harvest 2009 completed
The Merlot grapes were harvested Tuesday September 29. The Cabernet and Petit Verdot Wednesday October 14. The harvest was preceded by a long dry and sunny period, giving the grapes a perfect maturation. In fact we might have a record high alcohol percentage this year, hopefully not too high!
First Clairet wines for sale in Denmark
In the start of September the first delivery of wines to the Danish market will take place.
The wines are imported and sold by Kaare-Thal-Jantzen Wines in Denmark. Please find under Services.
Why not take the opportunity to test this giant rosé-style-wine along with the kind of meals that everyone tells you is best for your health?
Should this test be successful, you are about to be a frontrunner in a sound and joyful development.
Clairet labels
The beautiful colored Clairet will be presented with white labels and a white bottle neck. The G-1773 barrel is our logo and that will appear on all our wines for easy recognition. The tradition label will be limestone colored and the Grande Réserve gold.
All though mature plants deliver wines of distinct terroir because of their deep roots, there comes a time where the yield becomes too small.
After 37 years of service we replanted this parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon. The new plants are one year old and will not be delivering grapes for wine making before 2011.
The plot is south-west facing, elevated and well drained; a perfect settlement for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
